To make it easier for you to follow, we’ve written down the instructions in 10 easy steps:
Lay your fabric over the arm.
Make sure any patterns are going in the right direction.
Pin the fabric into place.
Mark the centre of the fabric, and the edge of the chair, with standard chalk. Then put to one side.
Put another piece of fabric on the end of the arm and follow steps ii-iv.
Allowing a space for sewing, cut in the shape of your chalk marks on both pieces.
Machine sew the pieces together on the edges. Then turn around and sew the other way.
To make it look neater, top sew along the seam. Â Pull the material apart to avoid gathering underneath.
Lay the fabric on the arm and make sure it is straight. Mark the other end of the arm pad with chalk to indicate where you will need to cut.
Roll your fabric in to give a nice edge, then sew and fit it to your chair
Match your arm covers with existing furnishings
There are other videos to show you how to re-cover a whole chair, but if you don’t want to go to the expense and time of this, or if you just want to do something to extend the life of new armchairs or sofas, then this is a fabulous chance to get really creative with arm covers.
